A Short Report on
Imam’s Movement from Medina until his Martyrdom on 10th Day
of month: Moharam, the year: 61 (lunar calendar)

- Martyrdom of Imam Hassan (peace be upon him)

Avoidance of Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.) of accepting the allegiance and
postponing the allegiance until the death of Moavieh.
Half of month:
Rajab, the year: 60 (lunar calendar):

Death of Moavieh

caliphate of Yazid and issuance of commandment for the people’s
allegiance with him.
3 days to the end
of month: Rajab:

Writing a letter by Yazid to the governor of
Medina, Valid ibn
Aghabeh ibn Abisepyan, concerning allegiance of three people: Abou
Abdollah Al Hossain (p.b.u.h.), Ibn Omar, Ibn Zobayr by him and
warning that: whomever avoids to oath an allegiance, shall be
beheaded.

Consultation of the governor of
Medina with
Marvan and summoning the people concerned and Imam Hossein’s asking
for a deadline up to the day after.
2 days to the end
of month: Rajab:

Imam’s movement from Medina,
accompanied by the members of his family (peace be upon them) his
brothers, nephews, a group of Shiite and their selection of Mecca upon
suggestion of Mohammad ibn Hanafieh.
3rd
Shaban to 8th Zilhaja:

Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.) and his companies reaching
Mecca on 3rd
Shaban. The decision of people of Kufa to oath an allegiance with Imam
Hossein (p.b.u.h.) having been aware of death of Moavieh/ the Kufa
people’s writing a letter of allegiance with Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.)

Delivery of 150 letters by the Kufa great men to Imam Hossein
(p.b.u.h.) concerning their allegiance with Imam.

Continuation of their sending up to 12,000 letters.

Imam’s thinking deeply and pausing in replying the letters.
-
Imam’s dispatching Moslem ibn Aghil (p.b.u.h.) to confirm the contents
of letters of Kufi people and authenticity of their allegiance.

Delivery of some letters by Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.) to some great men
of Basra, for
example: Ahnaf ibn Ghays, Manzar ibn Jarood, Yazid ibn Masoud
Nahshali, Ghays ibn Maysam.

Allegiance of 18,000 people with Hazrat Moslem (p.b.u.h.) just as he
entered Kufa and his informing Imam (p.b.u.h.) of the number of those
taking oath of allegiance.

Announcement to Yazid of the news on allegiance of the inhabitants of
Kufa with Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.) and his election of Obaydollah ibn
Ziad, simultaneously, as the governor of Basra and Kufa.

Entrance of Obaydollah ibn Ziad to Kufa and his threatening the
inhabitants of the city and decrease of those taking oath of
allegiance, so that only a few remained of the former 18,000 people.
8th

Entrance of Amr ibn Saeid ibn Alas to Mecca to kill
Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.) and Imam’s disregarding compulsory pilgrimage
and changing it to Omra and his movement to Iraq.

noble men of Kufa and aristocrats of Shiite)

passing the places of Taneim, Zat Aragh, Hajar, Salabieh, Zobaleh,
Sharaf.

His encountering Hor ibn Yazid Riahi and his legion at Sharaf and
Hor’s announcing to Imam (p.b.u.h.) his mission, considering taking
Imam to Kufa and crown of Ibn Ziad.

Imam’s avoiding to going to Kufa and Hor’s avoiding Imam to go back to
Medina.

Imam’s movement to Ozayeb Hajanat and the palace of Bani
Maghatel and his reaching the land of Naynava.
2nd

Imam’s reaching the land of Karbala.

Imam’s staying at the aforesaid land, upon command of ibn Ziad, by
Hor.

6th Moharam:

Entrance of Omar ibn Sad accompanied by 4000 troopers and dispatching
a messenger to Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.) to be aware of Imam’s
decisions.

Writing a letter to ibn Ziad and presenting the reports.

Ibn Ziad’s replying the letter and his command for Imam’s allegiance.
6th
Moharam:
-
Gathering of 20,000 to 30,000 troopers in the legion of Omar ibn Sad.
7th
Moharam:
-
500 army men of Omar ibn Sad avoiding Imam (p.b.u.h.) to have access
to water of Forat.
-
Meeting of Omar ibn Sad and Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.) and his agreement
with Imam on Imam’s coming back or his going to one of the borders and
writing letters to Ibn Ziad, announcing the agreement.
-
Shemr ibn Ziljoshan’s making Ibn Ziad disregarding his agreement with
the decision made by Omar ibn Sad and issuance of the order for war by
Ibn Ziad.
9th
Moharam:

Shemr’s entrance to Karbala.

Commencement of war by the army of Omar ibn Sad and Imam’s requesting
for a deadline of one night and its announcement by Hazrat Abolfazl
(p.b.u.h.) the courageous apostle of his corps.
